Court Sidesteps 'Roe v. Wade'
The U.S. Supreme Court upholds two Missouri limits on abortion but refuses to rule on whether Roe v. Wade remains the law. In a 5-4 decision, four justices uphold Roe, the 1973 decision that protects a woman’s right to choose an abortion, and four say reversal is appropriate. But Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the key fifth vote, decides that the continuing validity of Roe need not be decided for the court to rule in Webster v. Health Reproductive Services.
